2008 RULES

1. TIME: Setup 7:30 am; classes begin at  8:30 am; estimated finish time is 5-5:30 pm (sorry, no Friday setup)

2. LOCATION : Benton Co. Fairgrounds, large auditorium, 110 SW 53rd St, Corvallis OR; ample parking; handicapped access; 5400 sq. ft. hall
DIRECTIONS: From I-5, take Exit 228 west about 9 miles to Corvallis (this is Hwy 34 and becomes Harrison St. in Corvallis). Continue through Corvallis, past University dairy barns. At stop light, turn left onto 53rd St. Fairgrounds is just past the mobile home park on your right. 

From Hwy 99, turn onto Harrison St. in Corvallis (if coming from the south, turn left; if coming from the north, turn right). Continue through Corvallis, past University dairy barns. At stop light, turn left onto 53rd St. Fairgrounds is just past the mobile home park on your right.

3. ELIGIBILITY: This show is open to anyone to enter (no membership required) and to all brands & types (plastic, china, etc.) of models, figurines or statues. A judge who sculpted, painted or customized a model shall not judge that model in any class. (Two halter classes are being added for models created by Stacey Tumlinson; a different judge will judge those classes. They will be NAN qualifiers, but not eligible for championships.)  Judges shall not compete in division(s) they are judging. Show management shall not compete.

4.DEFINITION OF DIVISIONS :

CUSTOMIZED/ARTIST RESIN (CM/AR) DIVISION:
For models which have been touched-up, repainted, remade, haired or any combination of these; any Animal Artistry pieces, artist resins & original sculptures shall compete in this division.

OPEN CUSTOM GLAZE: Any bisque glazed and fired to a unique color, such as a Loki by Lesli Kathman. These models may not cross enter to other CM/AR  halter classes.

ORIGINAL FINISH (OF) DIVISION:
For factory finish models; no added socks, blazes, etc. allowed; models which have been rubbed with baby oil or similar product will be penalized or disqualified at the judge's discretion. Unnoticeable minor touchups to restore model to original color are allowed.

All halter classes & halter championships are divided as follows (except Foal/Yearling where all plastics compete together):
Stone: Peter Stone models
Plastic: Breyer, Hartland, other plastics
(no Stone models)
China/Resin: Breyer porcelains, North Light, Hagen-Renaker, Beswick, Black Horse Ranch resins, other factory finish chinas or resins (except no Lakeshore Collection, Ltd. models)
Lakeshore: Lakeshore Collection, Ltd. models (may not cross enter china/resin halter classes)

OF Plastic Mini models (under 4") must show in Mini Halter classes only; Minis are allowed in OF Performance

OF PLASTIC MINI HALTER DIVISION:
For OF plastic models under approximately 4" at eartips or of that scale. Includes Breyer Little Bits, Stablemates, & Mini Whinnies; Micro Minis; Hartland Tiny Mites; Stone Chips & Pebbles; etc. Plastic Minis must only enter mini halter classes; no cross entry to OF Plastic halter classes. Mini OF china/resins compete in C/R classes 1-8. Any OF Mini may show in OF Performance.

YOUTH DIVISION: (not NAN qualifying)
Open to any youth 14 years of age and under, as of Jan. 1, 2008. (Based on age only; showing experience or number of live show wins is not considered.) May show OF plastic models or models customized by the entrant only. Youth may cross enter to other divisions by paying appropriate fee.

5. GENERAL:
Classes may be split at judge's and/or show management's discretion

"Other Perf" is any event not listed (if showmanship, must use doll)

Costumes & saddles must have a girth.
Each model may enter 1 halter class only.

6. BASIC JUDGING CRITERIA: (not necessarily in order of importance)
OF Halter: condition, conformation, breed type, color (not value, collectibility, rarity or age)

CM/AR Halter: conformation, workmanship, breed type, color, condition
Performance: suitability to event or task portrayed; appropriateness, fit, adjustment, detail of tack & props; placement of model in relation to props

7. HALTERS: are not required in breed or foal classes; if used, should fit properly and be appropriate for the breed

8. FOALS/YEARLINGS: may enter foal/yearling classes only, except in CM glaze where foals should enter appropriate breed type class

9. ENTRY LIMIT: none, but suggested limit is not more than 50 models per entrant

CLASS LIMIT:
none, except as noted on class list

10. LEG TAGS:

  • You must provide and fill out your own tags
  • String tags should be at least 1"
  • Each entrant will be assigned an exhibitor identification code; you must provide an e-mail address or a SASE to get your code
  • OR, you may participate in the Region 1 "Tag Saver" Program   & provide me with your ID number
  • Make list of your models; number them sequentially (must be in ascending order; OK to skip numbers)
  • Mark your tags with your code, model number, and model's breed
  • Example, if Code = K, Model # = 12, and Breed = Morgan
               K-12             OR         R1-140-12 (if using Region 1 number)
               Morgan                                Morgan
  • Please print neatly on tags in blue or black ink
  • You must provide showholder with list of models (with entry form, via e-mail, or on show day)
  • If you make changes or additions, you must provide this info in writing to showholder on show day (forms provided at show)
11. JUDGES: The following judges are scheduled to judge at NW Expo:

OF Plastic Mini Halter  & Youth Division -- Juanita Snyder
 OF Performance -
Traci Durrell-Khalife

Show management reserves the right to replace a judge in the event the judge has an emergency and cannot attend. Every effort will be made to notify entrants of substitute judges if there is time before the show date.


ALL DECISIONS OF THE JUDGES ARE FINAL.

12. AWARDS:

  • commercial flat ribbons 1st-10th in all classes
  • Special award & rosette to champions
  • rosette to reserve champions
  • award & rosette to Grands; rosette to reserve grands
  • ALES Pursuit of Excellence award to any ch/res longear
  • rosette to 1st in  Collections (flats 2nd-10th)
  • special  flats  in Lakeshore classes; special rosettes & pins to ch/res -- donated by The Lakeshore Collection, Ltd.
13. RESULTS:
Results (1st - 5th only) sent to all entrants after show (YahooGroups file, e-mail or US mail); please keep track of your placings -- especially 6th - 10th

14. NAMHSA MEMBER SHOW: 1st & 2nd place models in Open divisions (not Youth) will receive tickets & qualify to compete at North American Nationals (NAN) in 2009 or 2010. Models that qualify in halter can enter halter at NAN; those that qualify in performance can enter performance at NAN. Owners of qualified models must contact NAMHSA for entry forms/procedures. NAMHSA will announce when to do so.

15. COLLECTIONS (General):
Each collection will be allotted 30" of table space. Collections can include horses, cattle, wildlife, etc. They may be displayed on risers with cloth drape or covering. Info labels (model #, years of production, etc.) should be included; labels should be neat. Use your exhibitor identification code to identify entries. ENTRY LIMIT: one collection per person per class.

16. OF COLLECTIONS:
Must have exactly 8 OF models of same brand. (Breyer flocked models, clocks, lamps, etc. will be considered as OF.)

Each model counts as one, regardless of whether sold as a set. Should be displayed without tack, unless it is original tack which came with the model (eg. White Pacer with sulky set)
Judging criteria include: rarity/age, condition, presentation (viewability), variety

17. VINTAGE CUSTOM :
for models made in 1989 or earlier; you’re encouraged to include a description with customizer’s name, year made, and history of the piece

18. CHAMPIONSHIPS : will be determined from judge-offs (call backs) of 1st & 2nd place winners. Overall Halter and Overall Performance champions and reserves will compete for Grand/Reserve Grand of their respective division.

19. CLASS ORDER: all divisions will be judged simultaneously on separate tables; OF performance will run concurrently with OF halter in morning.

20. TIME LIMITS : 3 minutes maximum preceding halter classes; 7 minutes maximum preceding performance classes. If necessary, timers will be used to enforce time limits. Two sets of tables will be used in each division to facilitate set up.

21. COURTESY : Please: look, but do not touch anything without owner's permission; stay clear of show tables while judging is in progress; clean your area before leaving.

22. PHOTOGRAPHY CONTEST:
Categories:

A. Model Halter Photo
B. Model Performance or Scene Photo
C. Live Equine
D. Other Equestrian Subject (still life, carrousel horses, etc.)
E. Youth -- Any Equine Subject
Youth may also enter classes A-D (cannot be same photo as entered in E). Any size photos; mattes or framss not required; NO GLASS please. Title optional; your name on back. Need not be show entrant to enter photography.
Rosette to 1st, flats 2nd-10th in each category.

23. AUCTION: Auction items may be started online. Silent auction in morning & finished as oral auction around noon (just prior to lunch break). Donations are welcome! Consignments may be accepted with 50% minimum donation -- please inquire. Donors receive free full page copy ready ad in program.

24. RAFFLE/DOOR PRIZES: donations are welcome!
Donors of door prizes get a free classified or business card ad
Donors of raffle items get a full page ad (copy ready)
Each donor's name goes into special donor's drawing
Raffle tickets are 50 cents each or 5 for $2, 15 for $5
All entrants' names will go into free door prize drawings

25. SPONSORSHIPS:
$1 per class (get free classified or business card ad)
$5 per championship (get free full page copy ready ad)
for each $1 of sponsorship, your name goes into a special sponsors' drawing

26. ADS: available in show day program
classified: 50 words maximum or copy ready business card $1.00
half page: copy ready $3.00
full page: copy ready $5.00

27. SELLING/TRADING:
you may display models, tack, etc. for sale or trade on your table; sales-only tables are $15 each

28. TABLES: tables will be assigned; each entrant (whose form & fees are received by May 30) gets an 8' table & 2 chairs (late entrants may have to share tables); you may bring your own table cloth; you may rent an additional show table for $15

29. ENTERING/DEADLINES:
Print  form, fill it out, and mail it. Fees are listed on it.
Entries due by May 30. Late entrants may have to share tables.
Entries received May 31-June 6 will be charged $5 extra per person.
Entries made on show day will be charged $10 extra per person.

30. ADDING/CHANGING MODELS:
Any changes/additions must be provided in writing to the showholder on show day (forms & drop-box will be provided to submit this information).

31. LUNCH:
We will break around noon for 30-45 minutes regardless of where we are on class list. Box lunches may be pre-ordered (see entry form for price and details). Fast food places (Burger King, Subway, Quiznos, Safeway with Chinese takeout) are within a 5 minute drive at intersection of 53rd and Hwy 20/34; or bring your lunch and eat and visit in the show hall.
