From her beginnings as a teenaged welfare mom from the distinctly unglamorous neighborhood of East Los Angeles, Candye Kane took to nude modeling to support her young son. She appeared on the covers of men's magazines and performed at strip clubs all over the world. Even now as her musical career continues to grow, Candye occasionally models - but this time it's on her own terms...and she gets to promote her music as well!
Candye sez:
I don't know what happened to me. For years I had no self-esteem and hated my body. I really think that, ironically, it was the adult entertainment industry that did it.
It empowered me,
it made me feel sexy,
it made me feel desirable.
People were paying too much attention to my boobs anyway, staring at 'em and stuff. so I said:
OK, you guys want to stare at my boobs? I'm gonna do something with 'em! I can juggle, I can hold a drink, I can play piano . . .
"I was fascinated by Candye -- a big woman with a bigger voice and a
compelling story. Candye had transcended her past as a bisexual welfare
mom supporting her kids by stripping in order to achieve her dream of becoming a
singer. Singing's great and all, but I was pretty impressed with her chutzpah in
doing nudie work while tipping the scales at 200 pounds. Now that's a
woman with confidence."
- Katie Puckrik of Candye's apearance on Oxygen Network's Pajama Party
