ACI-TIPI Predictive Instrument

The ACI-TIPI is a logistic regression formula utilizing a series of patient demographic variables (chest pain status, age, and gender) plus ECG features (Q-wave, ST, and T-wave) to predict the probability that a given patient have acute cardiac ischemia.

The ACI-TIPI started out as a check-off form used to assist the Emergency Department (ED) clinician make better triaging decision on patients presenting with chest pain suggestive of acute cardiac ischemia (ACI). This ACI-TIPI form quickly evolved into a hand-held calculator-based instrument, providing the clinician with a 0%-100% predicted probability a patient is experiencing ACI. Because the ACI-TIPI formula uses ECG features, the next logical evolutionary step was to implement the ACI-TIPI analysis directly into an electrocardiograph. Such an electrocardiograph product was introduced in May of 1996 - the Hewlett Packard PageWriter XLi cardiograph with the M1791A ACI-TIPI application.
