Much can be learned in their musings reflected in what they think and write. Prepare to be challenged!

 George MacDonald
George MacDonald was a Scottish preacher and teacher as well as an author of thirty novels, numerous fairy tales, poetry, essays, and sermons. MacDonald's writing and lecturing brought him great recognition and introduced him into the company of many of the leading Victorians of the time. Through his visionary theology, MacDonald has made his greatest contributions in the realms of fantasy and children's literature.

 G.K.Chesterton
Two early 1900 works by Chesterton, the first in the series was titled Heretics. In Christianity he found the answers to the dilemmas and paradoxes he saw in life. The second book in the series was titled Orthodoxy. In this book it was his purpose to attempt an explanation, not of whether the Christian Faith can be believed, but of how he personally has come to believe it. It was written in response to attacks on Heretics.

 J.R.R. Tolkien
John Ronald Reuel Tolkien, was a scholar by profession. His principal professional focus was the study of Anglo-Saxon (Old English) and its relation to linguistically similar languages (Old Norse, Old German, and Gothic), with special emphasis on the dialects of Mercia, that part of England in which he grew up and lived. If you are interested in better understanding his gift of writing this is a good place to start.

 Dorothy L. Sayers
"The only Christian work is good work well done" seemed to exemplify the life of D. L. Sayers. In 1923 she published her first novel, Whose Body, which introduced Lord Peter Wimsey, her hero for fourteen volumes of novels and short stories. Later on in her life, Sayers gave up detective fiction to pursue her other interests. She spent the last years of her life working on an English translation of Dante's Divine Comedy, having always claimed that religion and medieval studies were subjects more worthy of her time than writing detective stories.

 C. S. Lewis
As his step-son Douglas Gresham comments "There is much here of worth to the serious scholar too, and if you are about to embark on a paper about Jack or his works I heartily recommend this site as a research source." Into the Wardrobe was created and is maintained by John (aka "Dr. Zeus") as a volunteer effort.

 Book Resources from Paul Harmon
According to the author this particular page is a long term project and there are many books left to add. But Paul has begun to assemble a useful reading list including works from one of his favorite authors, C.S. Lewis.
