Host a CALYX House Party!

Thanks, CALYX Friends!

In the past year, CALYX supporters have hosted 30th anniversary birthday parties for us all over the

United States.  Together, over $6000 has been raised to help ensure the important

work of CALYX Press can continue.

Hosting a CALYX House Party is a wonderful way to celebrate women’s literature and share

Calyx with friends and acquaintances. Parties also help provide support for Calyx into the future.

The size, feel and offerings of the party are up to each host. Some are intimate reading and

sharing events. Others are full-blown parties with live music and a silent auction. Or, invite

some friends for dinner and ask each to pay you what they would’ve paid to eat out in a restaurant.

Each event is made special by the short readings and presentations by CALYX authors and artists.

Each new friend of CALYX means possible future support.

If you have had your work published by CALYX ...

If you are a member of a book club or reading group ...

If you like any excuse to throw a party or dinner with friends...

... we would love the opportunity to help you host a CALYX House Party.

Please call CALYX Press at: 541-753-9384 or

Burlington Northern Derails

30th Anniversary CALYX Journal

The 30th Anniversary issue of CALYX Journal (Summer 2006, Vol. 23:2) bound for Oregon, parts of Washington, and other Western locations fell victim to downburst winds that swept 76 cargo containers from a Burlington Northern Santa Fe freight train into the Sheyenne River in North Dakota on 8/9/2006. Three containers contained US mail and of these only a fraction of one was recovered. Two of the 3 mail cars are still at the bottom of the river with CALYX’s beautiful 30th anniversary issue.

One journal from the train derailment reached its destination. All issues with readable addresses have been sent. We believe this is the only issue the USPS was able to process.

All Oregon subscribers have had their issues remailed. But neither the USPS nor BNSF can tell us exactly which of our mail bags were on that train. Only the Sheyenne River knows for sure and she’s not telling.

If you live in the west and have not received your 30th Anniversary CALYX Journal, please let us know. We will remail to the western locations by bulk mail as soon as we hear from subscribers missing issues.

The USPS will only cover the costs of postage of the lost copies (and they don’t know how many are lost!). CALYX is not covered for the lost issues, the costs of the mailing house, nor our time finding out what is missing and remailing. NOTE: Our Board Chair did the Google search that found the derailment and we’re who told the local Postmaster what happened.

This is a significant and unexpected financial burden to our non-profit organization. If you can make a tax deductible donation to defray the costs of this ill wind, your gift will be greatly appreciated.
