THE GATEWAY TO THE SANTIAM PLAYGROUND

Sweet Home was built by the earlier settlers as a "Timber Town" as most of the towns in the Willamette Valley started. The settlers who came into the Willamette Valley found great beauty that was not only pleasing to the eyes but also pleasing in the sense that there was everything in this valley in abundance that would support life. The settlers knew there was always a need for timber and here there was an unending supply they figured.
Today with the timber economy locked in legal court battles the town of Sweet Home has had to turn in another direction to survive the fate of a lot of the smaller towns in the area that cease to exist because of no economy to keep the people going.

What does SWEET HOME have to OFFER

Sweet Home is in the process of transition from relying on the timber industry to support the economy of it residents to a broader basis. There are many opportunities available for future businesses and industries due to the close proximity to the I-5 corridor. The city of Sweet Home has been designated as an Enterprize Zone making it attractable for businesses wishing to locate or relocate because of the tax exempt status offered by this designation.
