"all are relatives"
When reading or studying native american spirituality most of the terms will be in the Lakota (Sioux) language, unless a specific tribal practice is being studied. The reason for this is that the Indian Unity Movement in the 1970's adopted the Sioux language as the official speech to be used during unity and intertribal prayers, and ceremonies.

My spiritual beliefs are closely tied to the Native
American Spirituality, therefore, the information I present to you are my own words, based on my perception and comprehension of all I was taught..

What do the Native American Indians Believe?
All are Relatives
When the term All is used, All means everything that
exists, because everything has its own spirit and is a part of the Great
Mystery or Wakan Tanka (Great Spirit). It is for this reason that all things are considered by the Red Man to be their brothers and sisters. Therefore all things are sacred and there for should be treated with great respect.
The Medicine Wheel
The Medicine Wheel is the symbol of all life. The center of the circle is the Great Mystery (Wakan Tanka). The circle it self is bisected by two paths. The Good Red Road runs from South to North. this is the road of life that we all travel during our life time. The other road, is the black road which runs East to West. This is where we face lifes trials and tribulations. On this road is were we learn our lessons for this life time.
The Sacred Pipe
The Sacred Pipe, known to most people by the term peace
pipewas used by the white man when the great chiefs used the pipe to seal treaties that the white man presented to them.
To appreciate the sacredness of the Pipe, a person must know the significance it represents. The Pipe, to North American Indians, bears the same importance as the Holy Bible does to the White Man. When you smokes the Sacred Pipe during a special ceremony it is the same as taking an oath on the Holy Bible.
If you would like to know more about the Sacred Pipe go to the
