Family Farmer Bankruptcy Relief Extension: By a Yea and Nay vote of 408 yeas to 2 nays, Roll No. 17, 2/3 of those present having voted in the affirmative, the House agreed to suspend the rules and pass H.R. 256, to extend for 11 additional months the period for which chapter 12 of title 11 of the United States Code is reenacted. [Amends the Omnibus Consolidated and Emergency Supplemental Appropriations Act, 1999, as amended, to extend until June 1, 2001, the reenactment of chapter 12 of the Federal Bankruptcy Code [Adjustment of Debts of a Family Farmer with Regular Annual Income (extending family farmer bankruptcy relief)]. Makes the Act retroactive to July 1, 2000 (the previous expiration date). {Chapter 12 offers special bankruptcy protection for family farmers by allowing them to reorganize their debt rather than forcing them to liquidate their assets. A family farmer is defined as an individual, spouse, or family owned partnership or corporation with debts of less than $1.5 million, eighty percent of which arises from the farming operation. The debtor must derive at least fifty percent of gross annual income from farming.}
