Welcome to the KA7EHK Packet Web Page

You have landed on KA7EHK's Packet Radio web page. Most of this site is devoted to a variety of projects related to amateur (ham) packet radio. Some of these project are still in the "blue sky" stage. If you want to contribute ideas, comments, or even flames, please feel free to do so.

"The Amateur Packet Radio Handbook" sold about 700 copies in the Pacific Northwest of the United States. It is now out of print. But, it has been converted to "pdf" format. It is available, free, for hams to use.

Updated Sept, 2007. Mapping of packet networks has long been one of my interests; the less charitable would call it an obsession. The Maps section provides you four resources. One tells how YOU can create your own maps of Net/ROM packet networks. One gives you a reference on interpreting the user responses from Net/ROM nodes. One gives you recent maps for the packet network in the Northwestern part of the United States and Southwest Canada. The fourth is "The Mother of All Packet Maps"; it is a map covering most of the Northwestern U.S. in 1997 near the height of packet network connectivity. Check it out.

PacketScape is one of my blue-sky projects. The idea is to do for packet like the browser has done for the internet. I believe that software can be created to remove much of the difficulty and quirkyness of packet networks. I believe that the same software can handle packet mail and bbs bulletins seamlessly, no matter which style bbs you use. I believe that the process of emergency communications using packet can be made FAR easier than it now is. Check this out if you would like to find out more or add your ideas to the project.

The Universal Data Radio Project is the realization of a long-held desire to experiment with VHF/UHF transceiver design. It has grown out of the observation that modern RF design, especially above 30MHz, depends heavily on phase-locked loops (PLLs). Once you have a PLL, you are almost required to use some sort of microprocessor to set the frequency. And, once you have a micro, you can do all sorts of things with modulation and demodulation, like packet. This is now located in the Oregon Research Electronics new products section.

If you are not a creditor, a process server, or a cruise missle target-setter, you are welcome to visit KA7EHK's QTH page.

Thanks for stopping by.
