"The Amateur Packet Radio Handbook"

The Amateur Packet Radio Handbook was written in 1991-1993. It was privately published and sold over 700 copies, mostly in the Northwestern United States. It has been out of print for several years, now, but there have been continuing requests for copies. To fill this need, it is being converted into a "pdf" form for free distribution over the internet.

The contents of the book is most certainly dated. For example, APRS was only a glimmer on the horizon. tcp/ip has developed substantially. Internet "tunnels" were only barely starting. Almost nobody tries to transfer files via radio any more; internet has made that so much easier and faster. And, the list goes on. But, much of the book is still pertinent. You will, however, have to use your own judgement about what to believe and what not to believe!

This book has a 1993 copyright owned by the author, Jim Wagner. Permission is hereby granted for downloading a copy, and printing, if desired, for personal use. Copies can be distributed (either part or whole), in either print or electronic form, to other hams, so long as no part is changed in any way and there is no fee charged for the distribution. Distribution under any other condition is only by permission from the author.

As of Dec 14, 2003, all book chapters are now online. There are several references within the text to a Volume 2; this has never been written.

This form of separated chapters means that you will NOT have a nice clickable index for the whole book. Each index will be just for that chapter.
