Cocoon Nebula

The Cocoon Nebula (IC 5146) is an emission nebula found in the constellation Cygnus (the Swan). It has a magnitude of 7.0 and a size of 12 arc-minutes.

The image above was taken with the 12" LX200, AO7, and ST-8E camera at f/6.3 on Aug 13 2004 at the Mistletoe Observatory.  It is an RGB image (as detailed below) with a total exposure time of 2 hrs 20 min.  Calibration and alignment were done in MaxIm DL.  Final processing was done with Photoshop.

The above image is an LRGB composite taken at f/6.3 on the 12" LX200 and ST-8E.  Six 1 minute 2x2 binned luminance, five 1 minute 2x2 binned red, five 1 minute 2x2 binned green, five 1 minute 2x2 binned blue.  All exposures were unguided.  Color balance was by my calibration data of 1.00 : 0.88 : 1.82.
